Ugandan sprinter Tarsis Orogot, a student at the University of Alabama, has secured a spot in the 200m semi-finals scheduled for August 24 at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Orogot exhibited his prowess by finishing fourth in heat five, clocking an impressive 20.44 seconds, effectively booking his place in the semi-finals.

However, his path forward has challenges, as he faces formidable opponents, including Noah Lyles, Letsile Tebogo, Erriyon Knighton, Andre de Grasse, and Zharnel Hughes.

Noah Lyles, the reigning world champion from the 2022 Oregon event and the newly-crowned 100m world champion, embarked on a quest for a track sprint trifecta.

He clinched victory in his heat of the men's 200m with ease, completing the race in 20.05 seconds.

Another prominent contender, Tebogo the world 100m silver medalist, triumphed in his heat with a time of 20.22 seconds, even visibly easing up on the final stretch.

Letsile Tebogo is on fine form in Budapest

Kenny Bednarek, the silver medalist from the 2022 championships, confidently secured his place in the list of medal hopefuls by triumphing in a swift last heat, clocking an impressive time of 20.01 seconds.

Erriyon Knighton, last year's bronze medalist, posted a time of 20.17, leading the pack ahead of Andre de Grasse.

In the context of Orogot's journey, he emerged as the thirteenth-fastest competitor in the 200m event during the 2022 championships in Oregon.

Notably, he also became the first Ugandan to compete in this distance since Davis Kamoga's participation in 1997.
