2023 World Champs: How much Victor Kiplangat is bringing home after his marathon triumph in Budapest

Kiplangat achieved a remarkable time of 2:08:53, capturing the coveted gold medal in the demanding men's 42 km race.

The 23-year-old faced a determined contest from Maru Teferi of Israel, who completed the race in 2:09:12, securing the silver medal.

Meanwhile, Leul Gebresilase from Ethiopia secured the bronze medal, crossing the finish line at 2:09:19. An unfortunate fall during the race relegated compatriot Stephen Kissa to fifth place.

Acknowledging their incredible feats, World Athletics awards a substantial cash prize of $70,000 (equivalent to around Shs256 million) to the gold medal recipient, recognizing their exceptional achievement.

Similarly, the silver medalist is awarded $35,000 (approximately Shs128 million), while the bronze medal winner receives $22,000 (about Shs81 million) for outstanding performance.

For his commendable effort and fifth-place finish, Kissa will be taking home a prize of $11,000 (Shs40m).

In joining the ranks of the illustrious Team Uganda contingent of 20 athletes, Kiplangat finds himself among the highest achievers.

Adding to his accolades, he stands alongside Joshua Cheptegei as Uganda's medal winner in Budapest.
