Defending his 10,000m title, Cheptegei emerged victorious, outpacing competitors like Kenya's Daniel Ebenyo and Selemon Barega.

Yet, behind his current glory lies a tale of adversity that he overcame to secure his triumph.
Before his recent achievements, the Kapchorwa-born athlete encountered a series of challenges that hindered his race-winning momentum.
He attributes these struggles to an injury he sustained after the 2022 World Championships in Oregon.
"After Oregon, I experienced a runner's knee injury that I grappled with for three months," Cheptegei shared during a post-race interview.

"This setback led to a period of recovery, which unfortunately caused some delays. Additionally, I gained some weight during this period," he added.
Reclaiming his peak condition proved to be an arduous journey. However, Cheptegei's indomitable spirit and dedication allowed him to progress steadily toward his goal.
Cheptegei seized a pivotal moment during the race, surging ahead of Ethiopian competitor Berihu Aregawi with just 600 meters to go.
