Kenya Lionesses have learnt their opponents for the upcoming Rugby Africa Women's 7s Cup set to take place in Nairobi from 14th to 17th November.

The Kenya Lionesses have discovered their path to potential continental glory after the pools for the 2025 Africa Women’s 7s were officially released.

The tournament will run from November 14 to 17 at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi, marking a return of top-tier African women’s rugby to Kenyan soil.

Fresh from reclaiming their Safari 7s title, the Lionesses have been drawn in Pool B alongside Ghana and Ivory Coast — a group that promises physical contests but also a realistic route to the knockout stages.

Kenya’s meeting with Ghana will rekindle memories of their emphatic 41-0 victory in last year’s group stage clash at the 2024 Africa Women’s 7s in Accra. The Lionesses went unbeaten through the group phase and semifinals before narrowly losing 12-7 to South Africa in a tense final that could have gone either way.

With home advantage this time around, the Lionesses will be eager to go one better and lift the continental crown they last won in 2018.

Beyond the trophy, the 2025 edition carries added stakes — it doubles as the African qualifier for the 2026 World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series, with only the tournament winner earning a ticket to the global stage.

Meanwhile, defending champions South Africa headline Pool A alongside Zimbabwe and Mauritius. The Springbok Women have been the undisputed queens of African rugby, winning every tournament they’ve entered since 2006, including last year’s edition.

Uganda, runners-up at this month’s Safari 7s, will spearhead Pool C with Zambia and Burkina Faso, while Pool D brings together Madagascar, Tunisia, and Egypt — all eager to challenge the continent’s traditional powerhouses.

With fierce rivalries, high stakes, and the added energy of a home crowd, the RFUEA Grounds are set for a thrilling weekend of women’s rugby that could define the next chapter of African Sevens.
