Caster Semenya Pens Touching Tribute to Her Wife as She Celebrates Nine Years of Marriage
Former Olympics and world 800m champion Caster Semenya may have endured tough times in her athletics career in recent years but she has plenty to be thankful for in other spheres of her life.
Semenya, a two-time Olympics 800m champion, who also won three world titles over distance, has not been able to compete since 2019 following strict rules from World Athletics concerning the limits of testosterone levels for female athletes.
However, she is living her life to the fullest and just celebrated her ninth wedding anniversary this week with a sweet message to her wife Violet Raseboya, an athlete-turned coach.
"Today marks our 9th chapter of our union nke Modimo le Badimo barena ba re kgontshe go feta mo. (May God and the ancestors give us strength) Moshate," Semenya wrote on social media, accompanying the comment with a photo of the couple.
What Does the Future Hold for Semenya?
Semenya and Raseboya have been going strong since tying the knot and their marriage is blessed with two children Oratile Semenya, born in 2019, and Oarabile Semenya, who was born in 2022.
The athletics future of the South African track star is still not known after World Athletics further toughened the rules in 2023, affecting athletes with differences of sexual development (DSD).
The rules stated that the athletes were required to take medication to lower their testosterone levels, something Semenya refused, raising concerns about the health risks of the suppressants.
Semenya won 800m gold at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics as well as the 2009, 2011 and 2017 World Championships and has a personal best of 1:54.25, the fourth fastest of all-time.
