Aldrine Kibet believes the Rising Stars are well-prepared and motivated to make history by reaching the final or winning the U20 AFCON in Cairo.

Aldrine Kibet is confident that the Rising Stars can reach the final and possibly win the title at the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cairo, Egypt.

The talented midfielder disclosed that training has been seamless, and they are now awaiting to face their opponents.

He is aware of what is required of him and the team, and revealed that they will fight to the end as they have trained well, and it would be unfair for them to fail their coach, Salim Babu, when they take on their opponents.

Aldrine Kibet further added that their few friendly matches have boosted their confidence, and they are ready to roar.

The fact that most of the players who played at the CECAFA Under-18 Championship two years ago are the ones representing Kenya in the Under-20 continental showpiece is a sign that they are primed to succeed.

“We have prepared very well since we got into camp. We played some really good, friendly matches, which improved our confidence and showed us where we are as a team, and I believe we are ready,” Aldrine Kibet said in an interview with Telecom Asia Sport.

Aside from going for the win, Aldrine Kibet revealed that the tournament is a great opportunity for the players to grow their careers.

Aldrine Kibet, who plays in Spain for Nastic Academy, revealed that not every player got the chance to be selected for such a high-profile event, hence the need to take everything seriously.

He believes that the tournament will help them gain the much-needed experience to continue showing up for Team Kenya and also position themselves to play for clubs in Europe.

“This is a really big chance to progress our careers. We are playing at a big stage and we have a chance to showcase what we can do to the rest of the continent and the world,” Aldrine Kibet revealed.

“It is a platform where we can also progress our careers, and you never know, maybe some players can get opportunities to move to bigger teams.

“It is a huge chance for all of us, and we need to leave the tournament better players with more experience to take us to the next level.”

He added that to be selected in the squad is special since the tournament always comes after every two years, and by the next edition, he would have already passed the age bracket.

The 18-year-old also pointed out that being the first ones to qualify for the continental showpiece is a dream come true and enough reason for them to give their all.

“This is a massive opportunity and something that possibly comes once in your career. This is a great opportunity for everyone in the team,” Aldrine Kibet revealed.

“We have already made history by qualification, and we can make more history by going all the way to win the tournament. It drives us to know that we have achieved something, and we can achieve even more.”

Rising Stars have been drawn in a tough Pool B alongside Morocco, Tunisia and Nigeria. They begin their campaign on Thursday, May 1, against Morocco before going up against Tunisia and Nigeria on May 4 and 7, respectively.
