Wydad have explained the circumstances behind Thembinkosi Lorch continuing to feature for the club despite his completed transfer to Al Ittihad.

Despite being announced as a new signing for Al Ittihad, Thembinkosi Lorch's tenure at Wydad Athletic Club is not quite over, with the player set to make one last appearance for the Moroccan side.

On Sunday, the same day his transfer to Al Ittihad was confirmed, Lorch featured as a substitute in Wydad's 1-0 victory over Maniema Union in a CAF Confederation Cup group stage match.

The South African international came on in the 65th minute in what many assumed would be his farewell performance.

Thembinkosi Lorch to Still Play for Wydad Athletic Club

However, Wydad coach Amine Benhachem has since clarified that Thembinkosi Lorch will remain with the team for one more game.

According to reports, his final match will be the return fixture against Maniema Union in Congo on Sunday, February 1.

According to Kick Off, Benhachem also indicated that the club only sanctioned the transfer because they had secured a suitable replacement.

The coach reportedly stated that Wydad AC would not have approved Thembinkosi Lorch's departure without a player capable of matching his technical abilities.

In a move to bolster their squad, Wydad AC recently acquired 18-year-old Bolivian winger Moises Paniagua on loan from Always Ready, with an option to make the deal permanent in June 2026.

Further reports suggest that it was Thembinkosi Lorch who pushed for the move, as Wydad had been eager to keep the influential player on their roster.

Over the course of his two-and-a-half-year contract, Thembinkosi Lorch’s total earnings are projected to reach nearly $3 million (roughly R48 million).

This lucrative agreement follows a record-breaking transfer from Wydad AC valued at $1.5 million, the highest fee in the Libyan club's history.
