Chelsea forward Noni Madueke has shed light on a humorous moment shared with teammate Trevoh Chalobah after “stealing” a goal during the Blues’ commanding 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Premier League on Monday.

Enzo Maresca’s men delivered an assured performance, with Tosin Adarabioyo breaking the deadlock in the 24th minute. Wolves clawed back just before halftime, thanks to Matt Doherty’s clinical finish in stoppage time. However, Chelsea emerged reinvigorated in the second half, with Marc Cucurella regaining the lead in the 60th minute. Five minutes later, Madueke added a third, but not without controversy.

The contentious goal came as Chalobah’s header appeared destined for the net before Madueke instinctively followed up to ensure the finish. Reflecting on the incident in his post-match interview via Chelsea.com, Madueke shared the amusing exchange that followed.

“I’m always happy to score goals, especially somewhat easy ones like that!” said Madueke.

“It’s attacker’s instinct. I think I knew it was going over the line, and I said sorry to Trev after. An assist on his first game back is great for him, but I had to put it in the net!”

Madueke elaborated on Chalobah’s reaction, saying, “He’s my brother! He was saying, ‘No way you took my goal, no way you took my goal,’ but I said, ‘Bro, you have to understand this is what they pay me to do!’”

On a more serious note, Madueke praised Chalobah’s outstanding performance, highlighting his influence on the team’s victory.

“He was unbelievable: leadership, character, bravery on the ball,” Madueke noted.

“The system from the manager is difficult to play and he slotted in seamlessly. I’m really delighted for him. It’s not a coincidence players like him and Reece [James] are back in and we won the game. They’re Chelsea through and through and they helped us with their leadership for sure.”

Chalobah’s performance was exceptional by the numbers. The defender won four aerial duels and made three key interceptions, both the highest of the match, showcasing his defensive prowess and composure.

Meanwhile, Madueke’s sixth goal of the season places him third among Chelsea’s top scorers, trailing Nicolas Jackson with nine goals and Cole Palmer leading the tally with 14.

The win leaves them placing fourth on the EPL log with 40 points, four behind Nottingham Forest and Arsenal in third and second repspectively and 10 behind leaders Liverpool.
