Nigeria striker and six-time African Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala has explained the reason she spots different bright-coloured hairstyles

Nigeria striker Asisat Oshoala has explained that there is a story behind every hairstyle that she rocks.

The six-time African Player of the Year has grabbed attention over the years due to the numerous hairstyles that she spots going from blonde, pink, blue, red to plain black.

She has also celebrated various milestones in her career and personal life with new hairdos but she insists every colour she dons signifies something she might be going through at that particular moment.

“It is very simple to be honest, I just love to have fun with colours,” Oshoala told journalists during the CAF Awards gala in Marrakech, Morocco this week. “I like pink, I like different colours. I tell stories with my hair, a lot of people do not know that about me.”

“Whatever colour you see on my head, it signifies what I am going through at the moment. Right now, it is pink, [it means] everywhere is bright.”

Oshoala rocked an all green outfit as she was handed a record-extending sixth African Player of the Year Award and explained what inspired the look.

“Today, I want to celebrate everyone so I used my outfit to celebrate my country Nigeria,” she added.

Considered one of the best, if not the best, African player of her generation, the Barcelona Femeni striker has dominated the women’s game on the continent, receiving the CAF award in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022 before beating South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana and Barbara Banda of Zambia to bag the latest accolade to further cement her status.

Oshoala helped Barcelona to the treble of league, cup and Champions League last season and also bagged the Golden Boot Award in the Spanish women’s top division after scoring 27 goals.

While an injury cut short her participation at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, she had a good run at the 2023 World Cup where she became the first African player to score at three World Cups, adding to goals against Sweden in 2015 and South Korea in France four years ago.
