Two Kibera-based teams have received a shot in the arm following the provision of new playing kits courtesy of the Raymond Omollo Foundation.

Two community teams from Nairobi’s Kibra area have received a major boost from the Raymond Omollo Foundation.

Through the Sports Mashinani programme, an initiative of Interior Ministry Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, the foundation provided equipment to two Kibra-based teams, Kibra TVC and Fort FC with kits, balls, gloves and nets among those given out.

The foundation is keen to ensure the youth are actively engaged so that they stary away from common vices like crime and drug abuse.

"Raymond Omollo is doing this so that he can bring youths together. I am asking other leaders to follow this trend. Instead of giving the youth Ksh500 and weapons to fight each other, they can support their talents,” said the foundation’s representative Michael Odari.

Premier League Ambitions for Beneficiaries

The players expressed their delight at the help they received from the foundation while some hope that this is the start of their journey towards the Kenyan Premier League.

"We are grateful for the support so far, and we are asking him to continue helping us wherever he can. Our team needs a lot of support from bibs, jerseys, to boots. We are very talented here; we only lack the support to achieve our goals. Our aim is to one day play for Kenya's top clubs like Gor Mahia, Tusker or Kenya Police," said Paul Ochieng, Kibra TVC captain.

His Fort FC counterpart Clinton Otieno echoed his sentiments. He said: "We only started the team recently to give the youth an alternative way of thinking and a different life away from crime. We are still setting up, but we are thinking about joining the FKF Leagues from the sub-county level on our way up.”

The Raymond Omollo Foundation will seek to spread the message across the country to reach as many youth as possible.
