Zamalek’s history of bans
)
This is not the first time Zamalek FC have been hit with a FIFA ban due to debts owed to Khalid Boutaib. Last year, the Cairo-based club was hit with another ban.
The 37-year-old joined Zamalek in January 2019 from Turkish side Yeni Malatyaspor. Zamalek spotted him, thanks to his impressive show for Morocco at the 2018 World Cup.
However, he struggled to make an impact at the club, following a series of knee injuries. Zamalek’s former president terminated his contract in January 2020, just after a year.
In May 2023, Zamalek FC also faced a similar sanction due to the unpaid dues for a former assistant coach under their previous manager, Jesualdo Ferreira. The club acted swiftly, resolving the issue before September 2024.
In September 2021, Zamalek were also hit with a two-period registration ban related to their former head coach, Cristian Gross.
Despite efforts by Zamalek’s new management to address the club’s financial challenges, recurring disputes continue to trouble the Egyptian giants.
FIFA’s current list of sanctioned clubs also features several Egyptian sides, including Pyramids FC, Pharco FC, Ismaily, Aswan, Eastern Company, and Wadi Degla.
