The left winger started his career at Newcastle United and climbed up the ranks from the Youth team to the Under 18 and finally the Under 21 side.

Harambee Stars commence their journey to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in mid November on the back of high profile friendlies which have painted a true picture of the team.

Head coach Engin Firat looks to have figured out his spine of the team which he has called on consistently in the recent matches but the wing position has constantly been a soft underbelly.

His spine consists of Joseph Okumu and Johnstone Omurwa at the heart of defense while Richard Odada, probably the first name he drafts on the team sheet, partners Anthony Okumu in midfield while skipper Michael Olunga always leads the line.

The wing position has been Firat’s most tinkered area and in the last encounter against Russia he had to recall old guns Ayub Timbe and an attached Ovella Ochieng into the squad in a bid to remedy the problem.

Only once has a winger scored during Firat’s reign at the helm of Harambee Stars which came most recently in the last 2-2 draw against Russia when Masud Juma found the back of the net.

Firat’s antidote may lay in familiar territories of Bradford City with prodigy Adam Wilson making waves in the club that is also home to Kenya international Clarke Oduor.

The 23-year-old has taken to life at Bradford like a duck to water since his move from Welsh champions The New Saints before the start of the campaign.

He scored for Bradford in the 1-1 draw against Wrexham on Saturday to mark his maiden goal for the club in just five appearances in the English League Two, having started the last three prior to the Wrexham clash.

The left winger started his career at Newcastle United and climbed up the ranks from the Youth team to the Under 18 and finally the Under 21 side.

His time at Newcastle was however plagued by injuries, suffering thigh and ankle injuries which led to him moving to Wales in 2022 but only lasted for a season before he was snapped up by Bradford.

The fleet footed winger is eligible to play for Harambee Stars by virtue of one of his parents being Kenyan and despite the fact that he has already featured for the England Under 18 side.

Kenya’s troubles on the flanks have been well documented with Firat having to play full backs as cover ups in the position since the Turk took over back in September 2021.

In his first match in charge that ended in a 5-0 drabbing at the hands of Mali, the result was not surprising as Henry Meja and Abud Omar started on either flank, none of them being natural wingers.

The return leg three days later against the same opponents saw local boys Boniface Muchiri and Abdalla Hassan start with the Bandari skipper missing guilt edge chances.

Harambee Stars closed their 2022 FIFA World Cup with a draw away to Uganda, a game which Masud Juma and Abdalla Hassan started while in the final game against Rwanda, Masud was dropped in favour of Erick Marcelo Ouma on the left wing.

Since then, AFC Leopards talisman Victor Omune, Daniel Sakari, Clifton Miheso and Elvis Rupia have been tested on the flanks but none has caught the eye.

Gor Mahia right back Rooney Onyango had an impressive outing against Russia last time but he offered little going forward, understandably so as he is not an out and out winger.

Adam Wilson with age on his side could be the solution to what looks as the final piece of the jig saw to the team with Masud being deployed to the left.
