In a nail-biting finish at the Olympics, Russell leaned forward just in time to cross the finish line with a winning time of 12.33 seconds.

The incredible performance made Russell the second consecutive Olympic gold medalist in the 100m hurdles to emerge from the University of Kentucky, following in the footsteps of Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, who took home the gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The Puerto Rican herself came third in the race that Russell clinched gold, clocking a time of 12.36 behind Cyrena Samba-Mayela.

Russell who is the collegiate record-holder in the 100m hurdles, brought her best to the global stage in what was her first major international final.

She faced a star studded line-up yet emerged victorious, elevating her status from a standout collegiate athlete to an Olympic champion.
