Mohammed Bajaber: Dream Start for Harambee Stars Forward as He Scores on Simba Debut
Mohammed Bajaber had a dream debut for Tanzanian giants Simba when he netted on his first-ever appearance for the club.
Bajaber joined Simba in August but had to wait for four months before his debut as he arrived in Dar es Salaam carrying an injury that has taken longer than expected to recover from.
It has been a frustrating period for the former Kenya Police star, who had to painfully watch as his teammates did duty for the club, while he could not help due to the setback.
How Did Bajaber Announce His Arrival?
Eyebrows were raised when he was excluded from the CAF Champions League squad against Stade Malien last week but it seems the departure of Bulgarian coach Dimitar Pantev has been a blessing in disguise as interim coach Suleimani Matola handed him not just a place on the bench but on the pitch.
Coming on as an 84th minute substitute, when Simba were leading Mbeya City 2-0 in a league clash, Bajaber took less than a minute to announce his arrival as he scored with his first touch.
A poor pass at the back from a Mbeya City defender was intercepted by Ugandan Steven Mukwala who squared it into the box and Bajaber, who was unmarked, met with it first-time to make it 3-0.
Simba Maintain Fine League Start
The goal was greeted by jubilation not just from Simba fans but the players, who mobbed the Harambee Stars forward, as they celebrated his contribution in just a short space of time on the pitch.
Morice Abraham and Jonathan Sowah had scored the first second goals for Simba, who maintained their winning start to the season, as they now have four wins from four games, taking their tally to 12 points, one behind bitter rivals Yanga, who have played one match more.
Bajaber will hope to continue from there on Sunday when Simba face a tricky test at home to Azam FC.
