‘I just think about me’ - Obafemi Martins claims CAF POTY winner Lookman plays like him
Lookman won the latest African Footballer of the Year on Monday, beating Achraf Hakimi and others to the award.
His strong performance at the AFCON 2023 competition, where he scored three goals to help the Super Eagles get to the final before losing to Ivory Coast, set the tone for his CAF POTY candidacy early in 2024.
Following his award-winning moment, Martins has heaped praise on the Nigerian international and called him his favourite forward.

Martins has praised Lookman for his tactics and goal-scoring prowess, drawing comparisons to himself.
During an interview with Livescore, Obafemi Martins said, “He’s one of my favourite players as well.
“My favourite striker because every time I watch him, I just think about me and the way I used to play, but he’s probably better with the techniques and everything.

“He knows how to score goals as well, so I’m very happy for him and I think he can do better.”
Lookman has been consistent with his performance for club and country in the last couple of years.
The winger has started the new season from where he left off last season, scoring eight goals and providing four assists for Atalanta.
