Shujaa will have their work cut out to qualify for the 2024 Olympics, as they are set to face South Africa in in the regional qualifying tourament set to be held in Zimbabwe next month.

Former Shujaa star Gibson Weru has revealed how Kenya can beat South Africa in the African Olympic qualifiers scheduled to take place in Zimbabwe next month in order to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Kenya will have their work cut out to qualify for the Olympics, considering they will have to face the toughest nut to crack, in this case, South Africa to qualify for their third consecutive tournament.

For the first time, The Blitzboks have to qualify via the Africa Cup after they have always been automatic qualifiers since Sevens was introduced at the Olympics.

The South Africans crashed out of the race for fifth place at the Toulouse Sevens in May and will now have to qualify via the regional tournament if they are to make the Olympic Games next year.

“It’s tough. South Africa will be tough but we have a chance if we can plan well we can qualify but it will  be very tough,” Weru said.

“We have always had a  good and competitive encounter whenever we play South Africa. It is always a tough gap.

“If we can put them under pressure and force them into making the wrong decisions, then we can stand a chance of qualifying.”

Given South Africa must qualify for the Olympics through the regional route, it is a critical situation for Shujaa, who normally dominate that tournament but are now in danger of missing out of the Olympics.
