World Military Golf Tournament Battle Heats Up Following Tee Off in Kenya

Kenya proudly hosts the 16th CISM World Military Golf Tournament in Kwale, welcoming 19 nations.

The 16th edition of the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) World Military Golf Tournament has officially teed off at the luxurious Diamonds Leisure Beach and Golf Resort, marking a proud moment for Kenya as it hosts one of the most prestigious events in military sports.

The tournament brings together participants from 19 member nations, underscoring the power of sports to foster peace among military personnel across borders.

Kenya’s Warm Welcome to the World

The opening ceremony was presided over by General Charles Kahariri, Kenya’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).

General Kahariri lauded the collaborative efforts between the local organizing committee and the CISM administration, noting that the tournament symbolizes more than competitio

"We are gathered to actualize the spirit of true friendship through sports," General Kahariri stated.

"May this championship challenge our skills and strengthen our bond."

A ceremonial tee-off by General Kahariri, joined by top-ranking military officials and CISM representatives, marked the official start of the tournament.

A Global Platform a Mission

The tournament's Patron, Major General Eric Kinuthia of the Kenya Defence Forces Golf Association (KDFGA), applauded the rigorous planning that went into organizing the event and acknowledged the steadfast support of the Defence Headquarters.

"This tournament is not just about golf, it’s about strengthening our military ties through positive engagement," he emphasized.

Major Cameron Lowdon, President of the CISM Golf Committee, also addressed the gathering, commending all stakeholders for their dedication and reinforcing CISM’s founding mission.

CISM, established in 1948, now boasts 140 member countries, and is regarded in the same breath as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and FIFA for its influential role in global sports diplomacy.

Following the ceremonial opening, practice rounds commenced in preparation for the main championship, which will run from June 24-29.

The picturesque course in Kwale County offers a challenging yet scenic backdrop for what promises to be an intense week of competition.
