South Africa Shines as France Tops Standings in World Military Golf Championship in Kenya

South Africa's Heidi V Berg made history with the first-ever albatross as France dominated team events in Kenya.

The 16th edition of the CISM World Military Golf Championship came to a colorful close on June 27 in the scenic coastal town of Diani, Kenya.

Hosted at the picturesque Diani Beach Golf Club, the event saw elite military golfers from around the globe converge for four days of intense 72-hole competition.

Presiding over the closing ceremony was Major General Paul Otieno, Commander of the Kenya Navy, who represented Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya.

In his address, Major General Otieno lauded the International Military Sports Council (CISM) for entrusting Kenya with the honor of hosting.

“This is more than a sporting event, it is a powerful show of cooperation. Kenya is proud to have hosted you in a spirited competition. We’re all winners through participation and comradeship," he stated.

Among the many highlights, South Africa’s Lieutenant Colonel Heidi V Berg delivered a performance for the ages, not only clinching gold in the Women’s Seniors category but also etching her name in CISM history by scoring the first-ever albatross in the championship’s annals.

It was a moment of sheer brilliance that captivated the gallery and inspired admiration from all corners.

Latvia’s First Lieutenant Artis Lusis also made headlines by achieving a rare hole-in-one—just the eighth in CISM history, adding to the championship’s lore of unforgettable moments.

France Tops Team Standings, Kenya Celebrated for Sportsmanship

Kenya successfully hosted the 2025 World Millitary Golf Championship.

France emerged as the dominant force in team golf, winning both the Men's and Women’s team categories.

Their excellence across individual and team divisions earned them the prestigious Don Keus Award for overall performance.

Hosts, Team Kenya, earned the “Friendship Through Sport” award. Voted by all participating nations, the recognition reflected Kenya’s warmth, inclusiveness, and the spirited ambiance that defined the weeklong event.

The event culminated in a vibrant cultural dinner, where traditional music and dance from across Africa entertained participants.
