The Blues have unveiled their 2025/26 scholarship class, featuring a club legend’s son and a record-breaking European debutant.

If one snapshot could capture the excitement around Chelsea’s next generation, it would be the moment Reggie Walsh took to the pitch in the Conference League semi-final last season.

The 16-year-old midfielder became the youngest Englishman ever to start a European match for the Blues, and now headlines the club’s 2025/26 scholar intake.

Walsh, who signed for Chelsea as an under-eight, is the only player in this new class to have featured for the first team. He made his debut off the bench in the first leg against Djurgarden, launching a thunderous long-range strike with his very first touch.

He followed that cameo with a composed 90-minute outing in the return leg, confirming his rising status in west London.

“It’s a great moment, he’s very young,” Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca enthused after that historic outing.

“He’s very young but in the way we want to play, in our way, in our style, he’s perfect. But he’s still very young, he needs to learn, he needs to work hard, and he needs to grow for sure. But we are happy.”

Walsh will continue his development this season under the guidance of highly-rated U18 coach Hassan Sulaiman, with former Southampton U21 boss Calum McFarlane coming in as assistant.

Silva Legacy Continues at Cobham

Joining Walsh in the scholarship class is Isago Silva, the son of Chelsea icon Thiago Silva.

A composed defender, Isago is capable of playing both left-back and centre-back, and made his U18 debut in February’s 3-1 win over Leicester.

The 16-year-old joined Chelsea at U13 level, following his father's transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, and shares academy duties with his brother Iago.

Also featuring in that Leicester match was Freddy Bernal, the England youth international goalkeeper whose stock continues to rise.

Bernal is a key figure in Chelsea’s long-term plans — the club reportedly turned down a £1.25 million bid from Arsenal in May to retain the 16-year-old’s services.

Kavuma-McQueen Leads Bright Future

The most meteoric rise, however, may belong to Ryan Kavuma-McQueen. Already impressing at U21 level despite being just 16, he has scored against both Manchester United and Ipswich Town, while continuing to shine in England colours.

His breakthrough came last season when he bagged a hat-trick for the Three Lions U15s in a 5-1 win over Morocco.

Another standout in the intake is Moroccan youth international Ibrahim Rabbaj, who joined from Crystal Palace at U12 level.

He recently lifted the U17 Africa Cup of Nations, converting in a nail-biting penalty shootout against Mali in the final — a moment that confirmed his big-stage potential.

The full list of scholars also includes Chris Atherton, Toby Bell, Jeremiah Berkeley-Agyepong, Calvin Diakite, Mathis Eboue, Chizaram Ezenwata, Jacob Hall, Charlie Holland, Lewi Richards, Joel Philbert, and Dante Waite each bringing their own skillset to a class brimming with promise.

Chelsea’s tradition of developing young talent remains strong and with figures like Walsh, Silva, and Kavuma-McQueen at the forefront, the future at Cobham looks as bright as ever.
