Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce dominated a Parents' Day race in 2023 while Usain Bolt humorously reflected on fatherhood and her speed.

Legendary retired Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt recently shared a lighthearted moment about his fellow sprint icon Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce while reflecting on his life as a father.

Back in April 2023, Fraser-Pryce showcased her unrelenting competitive spirit beyond the professional track when she took part in a parents' race at her son Zyon’s school sports day in Kingston.

Before the race, one of the other parents playfully attempted to "psych her out," sending workout photos and expressing their determination to outrun the three-time Olympic champion. However, Fraser-Pryce was unfazed by the challenge.

She laced up her running shoes, hit the track, and—unsurprisingly—dominated the race, crossing the finish line a staggering half-track length ahead of the other participants.

Though the race happened two years ago, that hasn’t stopped Bolt from poking fun at his compatriot. During a recent appearance on Meet the Mitchells, Bolt was asked whether he would take a parents' race as seriously as Fraser-Pryce did if given the opportunity at his children's school.

He responded with a chuckle, making it clear that he would take a more laid-back approach.

“I saw Shelly running at a parents' meet in 2023. It was just a parents' race, man, but Shelly wanted to compete,” Bolt joked.

“I will not be like Shelly. I will take it easy.”

Bolt and his longtime partner, Kasi Bennett, are parents to three children. Their firstborn, a daughter named Olympia Lightning Bolt, was born on May 17, 2020. A year later, in June 2021, the couple welcomed twin boys—Thunder Bolt and Saint Leo Bolt.

Given their names, many have speculated that the children will feel pressure to follow in their father’s legendary footsteps. However, Bolt has made it clear that he will give them the freedom to choose their own paths in life.

“I have learned that you can’t put pressure on them because I’ve seen it with other athletes,” Bolt explained.

“If I see the talent, I will push them. But I will not pressure them into anything. If they don’t want to do track, it’s fine because life outside of track and field will be less stressful for them.”

The eight-time Olympic gold medalist also expressed how much he enjoys the flexibility that retirement has given him, allowing him to spend more quality time with his family.

“For me, it’s just about having time because now I can choose what I want to do. I can spend a whole month with my kids without any distractions,” he shared.

“Patience is key. When you have kids, you realize that things take time to develop. You have to be patient with them as they grow and guide them through the process.”
